Kaleidoscope. Summer 2013
June/July/August/ 2013
For the second year SGgallery is turning into a Kaleidoscope
A Kaleidoscope operates on the principle of multiple reflection. As the tube is rotated, where several mirrors are together, the tumbling of the coloured objects presents varying colours and patterns. Arbitrary patterns show up as a beautiful symmetrical pattern created by the reflections. The word “kaleidoscope” derived from the Ancient Greek καλός (kalos), means “beautiful, beauty”, εἶδος (eidos), “that which is seen: form, shape” and σκοπέω (skopeō), “to look to, to examine”, hence “observer of beautiful forms.” With this wonderful image in mind Artists in Residence here at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica are invited to use the gallery space to show & make work in co-operation with each other creating a presentation which will evolve out of their experience here.
