Jon Cattapan is a widely exhibited Australian artist whose family originally came from Castelfranco Veneto. His work takes in influences from cinema, popular culture, science fiction and actual situations the artist finds himself a part of. He is particularly interested in the way human beings occupy urban territories and the ambiguous psychologies of social transaction.
In this exhibition held during his residency at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, the artist imagines and records through monotypes, a series of figurative explorations very loosely based around dream-like encounters of a nocturnal Venice.
This exhibition and residency is an outcome of Jon Cattapan being awarded the prestigious Bulgari Art Award in 2013. Jon cattapan also acknowledges the support of the University of Melbourne toward his current research.

Jon Cattapan held his first exhibition in 1978. Since then he has exhibited widely. In 2008 a monograph ‘Jon Cattapan: Possible Histories’ written by Dr Chris McAuliffe was published by Miegunyah Press. In 2013 He was awarded the prestigious Bulgari Art Award which has allowed him to spend an extended period in Italy.
