Water. Works on Paper

International Collaboration

Water is a collaboration between Artery Co-operative Melbourne (Artery) and Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venice.

The work was shown firstly at Artery Project Space, 107 Helen St, Northcote, Melbourne, Australia in 2020 and now after a delay of 2 years (due to the covid pandemic!) the return leg of the exhibition finally opens at SGgallery, at the Scuola di Grafica Internazionale in Venice.

The exhibition exploring water in all its complexity through works on paper, is In response to events in 2019, when Venice experienced one of the worst acqua alta events in history, while at the same time parts of Australia were suffering severe drought and catastrophic bushfires.

Helen Kocis Edwards (artist in residence at the Scuola, September 2019) and two other Artery Artists; Alexis Beckett and Andrej Kocis, in conjunction with the staff at Scuola di Grafica and Artery Co-operative Melbourne created the ‘Water’ project to raise funds following the flooding of the print workshop in Venice. Artists were invited to create works on paper exploring the imagery and issues of global, social, political and environmental concerns surrounding water.

A proportion of funds raised from the exhibition go towards creating opportunities for artists in the future through Artery and Scuola di Grafica

Artery is a not for profit organisation established in 2001 offering artist studios and a workshop to approximately 70 artists of all disciplines. Scuola di Grafica is a print workshop established in 1969 in Cannaregio Venice offering printmaking, works on paper, artist book making and artists residencies for local and international artists.
