Bursting
“An exploration of a sensual interaction between our environment and a particular existence.” This is how Andrea defines “Bursting,” an exhibition set to be displayed at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice. The works in the show feature images that, drawn from symbols of the world in which she lives, transform into one another in a continuous and fascinating interplay, often intriguing.
One wall of the SG Gallery will be occupied by six panels derived from a single linoleum print (a print with a linoleum matrix) that spans six meters in length. The images are printed on Kozo, a Thai fiber. On the opposite side of the gallery, there will be 8 panels (altogether measuring approximately 5 meters in length), also on Kozo. The support has been marbled using the Japanese “suminagashi” technique, and then printed with a woodcut that repeats on each panel, differing only in colors.
Beyond the techniques she uses, Andrea seeks to explore through her art the way humans, animals, insects, and plants interact with the world they inhabit. She continually investigates what surrounds her because only a complete awareness of what is happening and what surrounds us allows us to truly understand and see. To achieve this awareness, she aims to use all her senses in her work. With her art, she strives to represent not what she sees, but what she experiences through living.
