Venice is in the constant flux of emerging & submerging. There are reminders of it everywhere; even the gallery space gets flooded at times! Jaanika Peerna creates a room size drawing installation that marks the highest ever water levels in the gallery and adds spouts that could turn on, at any moment. She uses plastic film for her graphite drawings which makes them resistant to getting wet. There will also be a drawing series, “Four Movements on Water”.
All works have been created during her residency at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica di Venezia and in co-operation with Artist Pension Trust ®
Jaanika Peerna, Estonian born artist living in New York since 1998 has exhi- bited extensively in New York, Berlin, Paris, Tallinn, Helsinki, Lisbon, Moscow, Dubai and Rome.
February 2015,“Storms and Silences”, will be published on occasion of her solo show at Kentler International Drawing Space, New York.
