Hughie O’Donoghue

Hughie O’Donoghue was the third artist to be invited by the Artists International Print Project to work at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica di Venezia.
During the summer of 2004, O’Donoghue produced a large body of work, incorporating carborundum, lithographic and monoprint techniques, to explore the ‘Drunkenness of Noah’, a sculpture adorning the Doges Palace.
One of the most influential figures to emerge into the British art scene of the 1980s, O’Donoghue’s work has continued to be exhibited widely throughout Europe, with major exhibitions at the Imperial War Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum (Cambridge), Abbot Hall Art Gallery (Kendal), and the Haus der Kunst (Munich).
The whole of the Venice Project 2004 will be launched at the Purdy Hicks Gallery in June 2005, and will be accompanied by a catalogue and essay by Craig Hartley, Curator of Prints & Drawings at the Fitzwilliam Museum
The Artists International Print Project has been put together by Michael Taylor and Simon Marsh, of the Paupers Press, London. Both practicing and exhibiting artists in their own right, they have worked with many of the country’s leading contemporary artists, working, working collaboratively for such diverse artists as Tracey Emin, Chris Ofili, Paula Rego & Damien Hirst.
The Scuola is delighted to have had Hughie O’Donoghue as its host for a new IPP programme in August 2011.
